It's An Emergency: Signs Your Pet Needs Vet Care Right Away

When you have pets, you need to worry about their health. You know you need to take your pet to the vet for routine medical care. This can include vaccinations, well-pet check-ups, and desexing. But, some situations need an emergency trip to the vet. If you're like most pet owners, you might not know when your pet is experiencing an emergency. If that's the case, read the list provided below. If your pet has experienced any of these situations, take your pet to the vet right away. 

Anxiety Attacks

If your pet suffers from anxiety, you need to watch for episodes. You never know when your pet will experience an anxiety attack. In most cases, you can calm your pet by taking them to a quiet place to rest. Unfortunately, some anxiety attacks can turn into emergencies. Some signs to watch for include trembling, shaking, and dilated pupils. If your pet shows any of those signs during an anxiety attack, visit a vet right away. 

Open Wounds

If your pet has an open wound, don't try to dress the wound by yourself. Pets can become aggressive when they're injured. Unfortunately, that means your pet might bite you. Not only that, but the wound might need special care, including stitches or cleaning. Make sure your pet's wounds get the right treatment. Get to a vet as soon as you can. Be sure to place a towel or cloth over the wound to stop the bleeding. 

Eye Injuries

If your pet has an eye injury, now's the time to seek veterinary care. It's not uncommon for pets to sustain eye injuries, especially when they spend a lot of time outside. Some common eye injuries include lacerations, puncture wounds, and scratches. Without proper care, eye injuries can become infected. If you notice problems with your pet's eyes, seek medical care for them right away. It's also a good idea to visit the vet if your pet is rubbing at their eyes. They could have a foreign object in their eyes. 

Poisonings

If you think your pet has gotten into a toxic substance, don't wait to see a vet. If you wait too long for treatment, your pet could become seriously ill or worse. Some toxic substances to worry about include chocolate, rodent poison, or antifreeze. These substances are toxic for your pets. If you suspect that your pet has come in contact with these substances, get to the vet immediately.
